November 1, 2021 by Katie McCaffrey

Town of Babylon Supervisor, Rich Schaffer recently held the Opening Ceremony of “Red Ribbon Week” at the front steps of Babylon Town Hall.  “Red Ribbon Week”, which is celebrated annually, October 23-21, is time to make the community aware of the Town and Village’s drug prevention programs.  The event was attended by many community groups throughout the Town of Babylon.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “It was an honor to attend this event, and to see all of the efforts within the Town of Babylon — by elected officials, law enforcement, community groups, volunteers, and our youth — to prevent drug and alcohol abuse.”

Senior Center Handmade Blankets Donation

October 29, 2021 by Katie McCaffrey

The Village of Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Center is happy to donate many handmade blankets to local hospitals on Long Island. These blankets are given to residents at The Long Island Veterans Home in Stony Brook and moms or dads in need at local outreach centers. These blankets are made by our seniors here at the center and by our home-bound seniors as well. Many of our seniors belong to the RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) which recognizes and appreciates the efforts and generosity of our seniors. We will supply the yarn if you or someone you know would like to create blankets for donation. Give us a call or stop by if you would like more information about The Village of Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Center’s programs and what we have to offer our wonderful seniors!

NEW YORK LONG ISLAND FILM FESTIVAL (NYLIFF) 2021

October 27, 2021 by Katie McCaffrey

For the second year in a row, the Village of Lindenhurst was home to the New York Long Island Film Festival (NYLIFF).  Festival Directors, Gerry Ferretti and Katie Schrader, both Lindenhurst residents, brought the festival to their hometown last year when movie theaters shut down and festivals started going virtual.  The Lindenhurst Moose Lodge opened their doors to them, and NYLIFF was the only film festival to be fully live in 2020!  Now in its third year, NYLIFF celebrated 65 officially-selected, independent films from all over the world, over the course of four days – their biggest festival to date!  Films were screened again at the Moose Lodge, as well as this year at the South Shore Theatre Experience, and an Opening Night Party was held at Sand City South Brewing Company.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Congratulations to the NYLIFF Team for another successful year!  Lindenhurst is proud to welcome this creative community to our Village — a filmmaker-friendly place with scenic water views, a traditional downtown area, and beautiful parks.”
