Overhead Wire Cleanup Project

The Village of Lindenhurst will be working with Altice to clean up the overhead cable wires throughout the Village.
If you are aware of a location that has unsafe or unsightly wires in the Village, please send a picture and location details to info@villageoflindenhurstny.gov with the subject being “Unsafe Wires”.
Wires that are considered unsafe or unsightly would include wires that appear much lower than the others connected to the poles or wires that are loose or downed.
Please provide exact location with cross-streets. For example, “Unsightly/Unsafe wires located directly in front of 430 S. Wellwood Ave. between Irving and Herbert Avenues.”
The Public’s assistance with this project will ensure the success of this project!

A COVID-19 UPDATE FROM LINDENHURST MAYOR MICHAEL LAVORATA

This is a reminder that all adults, 18-years or older, are now eligible for a booster shot at any vaccine location, as long as it has been at least six (6) months after your last Pfizer or Moderna shot, or at least two (2) months after your one-dose Johnson & Johnson shot.

With the holidays approaching, and the Delta variant continuing to impact the Long Island region and our Lindenhurst Community, I encourage everyone eligible to consider getting the booster shot.  Let us all enjoy the holidays with family, friends, and new acquaintances during this most festive time of year!

SMALL BUSINESS SATURDAY

The Village of Lindenhurst encourages all residents and visitors to support our local merchants and shop in our Downtown Business District on Small Business Saturday, November 27, 2021, and throughout the holiday season. The Village has a variety of businesses from boutiques to bakeries, breweries, a meadery, and restaurants. Come down and support our Lindenhurst Business District this holiday season.

Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle, also the owner of local paint store Bak & Vogel, said, “Our small businesses are the heart and soul of our Lindenhurst Community.  The holiday season is about giving, and our small business owners give back to our community all year long in a number of ways.”

Trustee Patrick Pichichero, a small business owner himself, added, “This past year of Pandemic has been incredibly hard on all of us, but has had a dramatic effect on our retailers, restaurants, theaters, and other small businesses.  It is important to shop local this holiday season, and year-round, to keep our local economy healthy.”

LINDENHURST ROADWORK PROJECTS

To ensure that they are safe and in good condition for residents, roads in the Village of Lindenhurst are assessed regularly by the Superintendent of Public Works.  Re-paving schedules are determined by the funds that are available on a yearly basis, and the maintenance that is needed for the safety of our community.  This year, the Village has utilized over $2 million of Federal, State, and Utility Company funds to resurface many roads and improve drainage throughout the Village.

Trustee Patrick Pichichero said, “Although it seems that we only scratched the surface, the Village Board will continue to do as many drainage and road improvement projects as possible to improve the quality of life for our residents, for years to come.”

SCHOOL STREET PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

Trustee RJ Renna has announced that, thanks in part to a Suffolk County Downtown Revitalization Grant, the municipal parking facility, located on West Hoffman Avenue and School Street, has been completely gutted, in process for renovation.  Some of the changes and improvements that will be coming to the parking lot include re-paving the asphalt lot, restriping the lot to accommodate more parking spaces, landscaping, and curb and sidewalk repair.

Trustee Renna said, “This project is another of the on-going upgrades the Village is making to improve the parking in our Downtown Business District.”

Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle added, “The Village, in partnership with the Chamber of Commerce and Business Improvement District, will continue to work to revitalize our Downtown Business District with transformative public and private sector projects.  We will work together to achieve our goal of creating a vibrant Downtown that will support current businesses, foster growth, and build a strong and secure future for the Lindenhurst Community.”

Thanksgiving Message from Mayor Lavorata

The Holiday Season is here, and we are hoping you are feeling joyful.  Thanksgiving is Thursday, November 25th, and although this has not been the easiest year, there is plenty for us to be thankful for.

For many of us, the meaning of Thanksgiving usually includes eating, four-day weekends, football games, family reunions, and shopping as we embark on the Christmas Season.  Thanksgiving is also a time to give thanks.  As your Mayor, I am thankful for our Lindenhurst Community.  I am thankful for all the good things going on in our Village.  Thank you for your kindness, compassion, and dedication during these difficult days of Pandemic.  It is a joy and a privilege to serve as your Mayor.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, our administrative staff, and all our Village employees, have a blessed Thanksgiving with family and friends, and may God bless our Lindenhurst Community.

Lindy Bulldog Pride!

Mayor Michael Lavorata was on hand to congratulate Lindenhurst High School Football Coach Nicholas Lombardo and the Lindenhurst Varsity Football team on their stunning, come-from-behind 22-20 win over East Northport last Friday.  The Lindy Bulldogs will be playing Bellport for the League II Championship on Saturday night, November 20th, at 7:00 p.m. at S.U.N.Y. Stony Brook.

Mayor Lavorata said, “I am so proud of our “never give up” Lindy Bulldogs.  Thank you for a great, exciting, football game.  Good Luck on Saturday night!”

THANKSGIVING WEEK SANITATION & RECYCLING SCHEDULE

Please note on your 2021 Sanitation Collection & Recycling Calendar that, during the week of Thanksgiving, there is only ONE (1) regular sanitation collection for each area of the Village.  Additionally, areas R4 and R5 will not have paper recycling collection that week.  The Department of Public Works appreciates your cooperation, and wishes you and yours a Happy Thanksgiving weekend!

PAUL LAMARTINA RECEIVES MOOSE HIGHEST HONOR

Paul LaMartina was recently awarded the Pilgrim Degree of Merit, the highest of the Loyal Order of Moose.  Mr. LaMartina, also the current President of Lindenhurst Moose Lodge #1421, was celebrated during a Pilgrim Presentation Ceremony, in which he was presented with his Pilgrim blazer.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Your outstanding record of community service, and loyalty to the Moose Lodge is evidenced by the time and effort given, on a daily basis, to the Lindenhurst Community.”

The Village Board recognized Mr. LaMartina’s achievement by designating November 15, 2021 as “Paul T. LaMartina Day”, and urges all residents to join in appreciation of this outstanding individual.

SOUTH 8TH STREET PUMP FLOOD MITIGATION PROJECT

The Village of Lindenhurst is hoping to significantly reduce flooding on South 8th Street through a new water control system that pumps stormwater back into the canal.  If successful, this “proof of concept” project can be replicated on other Village streets south of Montauk.

Trustee Patrick Pichichero said, “This new technology will prevent most street flooding which plagues South 8th Street during an abnormal high tide or in heavy rains.  The pump, along with check valves that fit into drainage pipes, will prevent water from backing up and flooding streets.  The pump is designed to move as much as 11,000 gallons of water per minutes.”

Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle added, “The valves and water pump will mitigate substantially most of the nuisance flooding that South 8th Street and some of our low-lying areas are predominantly subject to.”
