During the March 7th meeting of the Lindenhurst Village Board, Mayor Michael Lavorata appointed Trustee Maryann Weckerle (pictured left) as the Deputy Mayor. Mayor Lavorata said, “It is an honor to appoint my friend and colleague as the Deputy Mayor of the Village of Lindenhurst. Trustee Weckerle has performed an outstanding service for our community as a Trustee, and we all deeply appreciate her willingness to serve as our Deputy Mayor.”
Each year the Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Citizens Center hosts a volunteer appreciation luncheon for the wonderful volunteers at the Senior Center. Trustee Joan Masterson said, “We are so thankful for the many volunteers and for all of their hours of volunteer service, and we hope that each individual knows how much their efforts make a difference in the lives of the seniors here in Lindenhurst.”

The Village of Lindenhurst recently dedicated a tree memorial in memory of Frank C. Prince, affectionately known as the Rainbow Senior Citizen Center’s “custodian and comedian”. Rainbow Center Director Barbara Poldino said “ it was a pleasure working with Frank and he will be missed by all our Seniors”. Over 75 people attended the ceremony including (left to right) Frank Prince, SR., New York State Senator Michael Venditto, Director Barbara Poldino, Deputy Administrator Douglas Madlon, Trustee Joan Masterson, and Trustee Maryann Weckerle.
In celebration of the Ukraine‘s 25th Anniversary of Independence from the former Soviet Union, Rev. Olvian N. Popovici and members of the Holy Family Ukrainian Catholic Church of Lindenhurst gathered at Lindenhurst Village Hall to jointly raise the American flag and the Ukrainian flag in celebrations of the Ukrainian peoples dedication to democratic principles and their unity in aspiring for a better life by securing the rights to free elections and non-violent civic initiatives. Peter Harrigan of the Lindenhurst Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1421 recently received the Pilgrim Degree of Merit. The Pilgrim Degree is the highest honor that can be bestowed upon a member of the Moose. Mayor Thomas Brennan attended the designation ceremony and presented Peter with a proclamation designating August 29,2016 as Peter Harrigan Day in the Village of Lindenhurst and urges all residents to join in celebrating Peter Harrigan’s achievements and selfless dedication to the residents of Lindenhurst. Lindenhurst Rainbow Center Seniors recently enjoyed an afternoon painting a beautiful beach scene. Our first “Paint Day” proved to be a success and we are planning our next event on Wednesday, September 7th. We will be painting a Fall scene. Rat Issues – Mayor Brennan would like to inform residents that the Village has been taking action to prevent future rat problems. The Village has been working with Suffolk County Health Department and a contracted pest control company to ensure that homeowners treat rat infestation issues with the toughness that is required.
Tips to Prevent Rat Problems:
If you notice a rat problem, please call the Suffolk County Department of Health Services at (631) 854-0333.
Mosquitoes – Mosquitoes breed in areas where water collects. The Suffolk County Department of Health Services suggests emptying and scrubbing birdbaths, pet water dishes, and plastic wading pools at least every three days.
Areas to Monitor for Water Collection:
The Suffolk County Division of Vector Control conducts sprayings to control the adult mosquitoes in our area. Before the spraying, all land line phones will receive a recorded message from the County’s Code Red system. Ticks – Unlike mosquitoes, ticks are active all year. Ticks crawl close to the ground on leaves, brush, and tall grass. Residents should consider the following:

The Lindenhurst High School Student Council recently held its 25th Annual Senior Citizen Prom. Seniors from around Lindenhurst gather at the High School for music, food and dancing, all of which is organized by high school students. Student Council President Thomas Bozzo welcomed Lindenhurst Village Officials to the event.
