Lindenhurst’s Historic WWI Gatling Gun Restored

The Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Historical Society are proud to announce the restoration of Lindenhurst’s historic WWI Gatling Gun, a longtime community landmark at the intersection of South Wellwood Avenue and Montauk Highway.

Gifted to Lindenhurst by the U.S. War Department in 1921, the Gatling Gun was part of a community effort to honor local servicemen who served during World War I. The monument was completed in 1922 and has stood as a symbol of Lindenhurst’s history and its commitment to honoring our veterans.

The restoration was completed by Chivvis Enterprises, led by Phillip Santoli, with retired U.S. Army Colonel Fred Kienle assisting in selecting the most historically authentic color for the gun.

We would like to recognize the Lindenhurst Historical Society for its dedication to preserving and sharing our community’s history and for its work in helping make this restoration possible.

A special thank-you also goes to Bricks & Mini Figs for their tremendous support and fundraising efforts, which helped fund this project. We are grateful to everyone who contributed their time, knowledge and efforts to bring this important piece of Lindenhurst’s history back to life.

We are proud to see this landmark restored and preserved for future generations!
