Sea Change is a Holistic Wellness Center that focuses on prenatal yoga, pregnancy and birthing education. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “The Business District in the Village has grown significantly over the past year, as part of the revitalization of the Downtown.”

On Monday, November 11^th, Veterans Day, the Lindenhurst Historical Society rededicated the WWI Monument, located on Monument Plaza at the crossroads of Wellwood and Hoffman Avenues.  The event featured a parade and reenactment of the 1919 dedication ceremony, along with a service to honor and remember all of our Veterans, led by the United Veterans Council.

Mayor Michael Lavorata thanked Village Historian, Anna Jaeger, for her research and work in planning the historical event, saying “It was a wonderful community event to mark the 100^th Anniversary of the WWI Monument, and to honor all the men and women who have served our country so bravely and selflessly.”

The Lindenhurst Kiwanis Club recently held their Installation of Officers and Executive Board at the Long Island Yacht Club. Alice Cromarty along with Paula Vidal were installed as Co-President of the club. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “I was so happy to see Alice Cromarty become President of a club that her father, the late Supreme Court Judge Arthur Cromarty was such an active part of for many years.” The Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst is a community service organization where professionals, retires, students, and active volunteers all come together with one common goal: kindness, children, caring and community service.

More than 50 people, including members of the Copiague and Lindenhurst Chamber of Commerce, recently attended the grand opening of the new Giannini Property office. The building is located on the corner of Montauk Highway and South Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst. Trustee Joan Masterson said, “I am so happy that Mitch Giannini chose to invest in the Village of Lindenhurst. I am totally impressed with this building, and his office is a welcome addition to the business community of Lindenhurst.”

Barbara Poldino has retired from her position as Director of the Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Center after serving in that capacity for over 31 years. In that time, Barbara Poldino has overseen the physical and programmatic transformation of the Rainbow Senior Center into the bright, safe, vibrant, bustling community center that Lindenhurst is so proud of today. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “We extend our congratulations on her well-earned retirement, and our best wishes for continued peace, love, happiness, and good health in the years to come.” The Lindenhurst Village Board declared October 22, 2019 as Barbara Poldino Day in Lindenhurst to commend and congratulate her on her retirement.

The Town of Babylon recently hosted a National Red Ribbon Week anti-drug campaign kickoff ceremony at Town Hall.  The event was sponsored by the Town of Babylon and the Lindenhurst and Copiague Community Cares Coalitions.  In special attendance was Gina Costa-Lieneck, who fought tirelessly for “Brianna’s Law” for stricter, boater-safety requirements in New York State after her 11-year old daughter was killed as a result of someone else’s negligence.

Helen Lipp has retired from her position of Deputy Treasurer after serving in that capacity for over 20 years. Helen served the Village of Lindenhurst first as a Neighborhood Aid and, as a result of her diligent work, advanced to the position of Deputy Treasurer. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Helen Lipp will be missed, both professionally and most importantly as a friend. We extend our wishes for continued health, happiness, and success in retirement.” The Lindenhurst Village Board declared October 24, 2019 as Helen Lipp Day in Lindenhurst to commend and congratulate her on her retirement.

Jessica Castiglione has completed her Girl Scout Gold Award project by installing wooden, flower-planters and flowers at Lindenhurst Village Hall. Trustee Joan Masterson said, “Jessica’s beautification project has really enhanced the recent improvements at Village Hall.”. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Being a Girl Scout is important because it teaches our young girls how to be a good role model. Jessica is a role model today, and a leader of our Lindenhurst community tomorrow.”.

The Lindenhurst Rotary Club, in conjunction with the Village of Lindenhurst, recently held their annual Oktoberfest. The festival featured a street fair, mid-way, beer garden, German music and all types of food to enjoy. Deputy Mayor and Rotarian Maryann Weckerle said, “The Oktoberfest was a great social event and a lot of people came out and enjoyed the day.”. Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “It is always good when so many people come to our Lindenhurst downtown to enjoy a day of all types of festivities.”.

Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean Pierre sponsored a New York State Citizen Preparedness Training Program which was recently held at the Lindenhurst Rainbow Community Center. Many residents attended and learned about how to be prepared for any type of emergency. Topics included hurricane preparedness, how to create a 72-hour survival kit, active shooters, and the importance of getting the flu vaccine.
