2023 is the Village of Lindenhurst’s 100th Anniversary! The Village of Lindenhurst 100th Anniversary Committee has an exciting schedule of events planned to celebrate our centennial. We are looking for volunteers that would be interested in assisting with these events.

If you are interested in volunteering, there will be an informational meeting at the Rainbow Room, 293 Buffalo Avenue, on Saturday 12/3 at 10:00 AM. Please send an email to info@villageoflindenhurstny.gov with your name, email, and phone number if you plan to attend. All community groups are encouraged to participate and attend the meeting.

Roadwork Notice- The Village of Lindenhurst will be asphalting Delaware Avenue (from Gates to Montauk Highway) and Irving Avenue beginning on Thursday, September 29, 2022. (WEATHER PERMITTING).

Please Note: All motor vehicles must be off the streets and out of driveways, if usage is required, by 7:00 AM; the streets will be reopened in the late afternoon.

The Village will make every effort to limit your inconvenience and keep the roads passable. Please bear with us as we make these much-needed improvements to our Village.

IMPORTANT REMINDER
All applications (new and renewal) for partial property tax exemptions including Senior Citizen, Veteran, Volunteer Firefighter/Ambulance Workers are due by October 3, 2022.

If your application has not yet been returned to the Assessment Department at the Village of Lindenhurst, please do so before the October 3rd deadline.

A tree has been planted in Lindenhurst Village Square Park to honor the memory of long-time Village resident, Evelyn Chivvis.  Mrs. Chivvis was a charter member of the Mayor’s Beautification Society, and served as its Chairperson for many years.  As Chairperson, Evelyn oversaw many fundraising activities, as well as the planting of colorful flowers and shrubs, painting planters and benches, and added her special touch to many beautification projects throughout the Village.  In addition to the Mayor’s Beautification Society, Evelyn also served as the Secretary to the Village Board during Mayor Lynda Distler’s term of office.

Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle said, “We could not think of a better place than Village Square Park, in the heart of our Downtown Business District, to create a lasting tribute to this wonder woman — Evelyn Chivvis.”

Mayor Michael Lavorata added, “The Village of Lindenhurst is grateful for her years of service, and the legacy of accomplishments.”

VILLAGE SQUARE PARK PUBLIC SAFETY OFFICE OPENS

Public safety in the Village of Lindenhurst Downtown Business District continues to be a top priority for the Lindenhurst Village Board.  Trustee RJ Renna has stated, “Our Downtown should be a place where everyone feels safe to work, live, shop, visit, and enjoy special events.”

In recent months, the Village has increased the number of Public Safety Officers patrolling the Downtown, installed additional surveillance cameras, and established a Downtown Public Safety office in Village Square Park. The Public Safety office is located next to the Gazebo, and is equipped with radios, surveillance camera monitors, and an area for residents to report issues.

Our Village Public Safety Officers provide a friendly and visible presence, and serve as the eyes and ears of the Downtown. They work with the Suffolk County Police Department, businesses, property owners, and residents to provide an additional layer of safety.

Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Our public safety team provides an impactful and positive improvement to the safety and quality of life in the Village Downtown Business District.”

PROMOTING DOWNTOWN COMMUNITY EVENTS

The Long Island Main Street Alliance and Lindenhurst Village Officials recently held a “Downtown Kickoff” press conference to promote upcoming summer events in the Lindenhurst Business District.  We are all excited for summer in downtown Lindenhurst, and there are a host of activities scheduled!  So, get your grill fired up, your flip flops out of the closet, finish drafting your summer bucket list, and then head to the Village of Lindenhurst for some of the many planned events, including street fairs, outdoor concerts, festivals, and more!.  There is so much to eat, see, and enjoy right here in the Village of Lindenhurst. Travel back to 1901 at the Lindenhurst Historical Society’s 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum

Lindenhurst, NY – Located at Irmisch Park, in the heart of Lindenhurst Village and close to the Village’s vibrant downtown, visitors to the Lindenhurst Historical Society’s 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum can journey back in time to experience what life was like in Lindenhurst at the turn of the last century.

Credited as Long Island’s first railroad museum, the Depot and Freight House replicates the Lindenhurst stop on the Long Island Railroad, recalling its original location along East Hoffman Avenue, close by to the grade crossing at North Wellwood Avenue.  The exhibit displays artifacts, photos and other memorabilia that celebrate the railroad’s contribution to Lindenhurst’s founding and subsequent development as the fourth largest Village in New York State.  Unique to the museum is the expertly refurbished Long Island Railroad caboose, circa 1958, that visitors can board.

The 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum, at South Broadway in Irmisch Park, welcome visitors every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday – 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. thru October 29^th.  Docents are onsite to guide and inform visitors.  Admission is free. The Lindenhurst Historical Society has preserved the history of the Village of Lindenhurst and the greater Lindenhurst area since 1948.  The Historical Society’s leadership and members celebrate the community’s rich and diverse history by meeting quarterly and by sponsoring celebrations and commemorative events throughout the year.   In keeping with the Lindenhurst Historical Society mission to preserve, the Society sponsors three museums which utilize guided tours of fixed and rotating exhibits to tell the Lindenhurst story from the 1600’s to the present;  depicting Lindenhurst’s evolution from its Native American origins as Neguntatogue to today’s thriving Village, the fourth largest in New York State. — The Lindenhurst Historical House Museum at 272 South Wellwood Avenue and at Irmisch Park on South Broadway – The 1901 Restored Long Island Railroad Depot and Freight House Museum and the Old Village Hall Museum (re-opening scheduled Summer 2022).  For more information please visit villageoflindenhurstny.gov or call (631) 226-0209.
