ROAD WORK NOTICE: SHORE ROAD — OCTOBER 10

Long Island, NY

Dear Residents,
As we enter September and the fall season begins, I want to extend my best wishes to all of our students, families, and teachers as they start a new school year. This is always an exciting time filled with fresh opportunities, new routines, and community spirit. It is also a time when we see an increase in traffic around our schools and neighborhoods.
I urge all motorists to be extra cautious during morning drop-off and afternoon dismissal. Obey posted speed limits, especially in school zones, and always stop for school buses when their lights are flashing. Many of our children walk or ride bicycles to school, so please stay alert for pedestrians at crosswalks and young riders on our streets. Your patience and attentiveness go a long way in keeping our community safe.
I would also like to take this opportunity to address the operation of bicycles and e-bikes in the Village. While these vehicles are a convenient way to travel, they must be used responsibly. Under Chapter 33 of the Village Code, cyclists are required to follow traffic signals, signs, and all other traffic-control devices, just as drivers do. Importantly, the Code authorizes the Village to impound bicycles when operators fail to comply with these rules. These regulations are in place for the protection of both riders and pedestrians. Parents, please review these safety requirements with your children before they head out onto the road.
The fall season is one of the best times of year in Lindenhurst. From enjoying our parks and waterfront to attending local events, there are plenty of opportunities to come together as a community. I encourage you to take advantage of all that Lindenhurst has to offer and to continue looking out for one another.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our Village a safe and welcoming place to live, work, and raise a family.
Sincerely,
Mayor Michael Lavorata

At the August 12 Village Board Meeting, the Board of Trustees proudly recognized local athlete Arthur “AJ” Palladino for his outstanding achievements in diving. Trustee Douglas Madlon read a proclamation declaring August 12, 2025 as Arthur “AJ” Palladino Day.
AJ, a lifelong Lindenhurst resident, has quickly risen through the ranks of competitive diving, earning multiple national titles and representing the United States in international competitions. He is a member of the prestigious AAU National Team and is training with his sights set on qualifying for the 2028 Olympic Trials.
“AJ’s dedication and achievements are an inspiration to our community. We are proud to honor him and wish him continued success.” said Trustee Madlon.

Dear Residents,
Summer is almost here, and there’s no better place to enjoy it than right here in the Village of Lindenhurst! We’re thrilled to welcome the season with a lineup of exciting events that bring our community together.
Join us every Friday and Saturday evening at the Village Square for our Free Summer Concert Series – a celebration of music, community, and warm summer nights. Bring a lawn chair, your family and friends, and enjoy live performances under the stars.
Our Lindenhurst Farmers Market returns every Saturday at the Village Square, offering fresh produce and baked goods, handmade crafts, and a wonderful opportunity to support local vendors. It’s a perfect way to kick off your weekend and connect with your neighbors.
As we enjoy these summer events, let’s also remember to keep safety top of mind. With more pedestrians, cyclists, and children out and about, please drive the speed limit, stay alert, and avoid distractions behind the wheel. Whether you’re walking, biking, or driving, being aware of your surroundings helps keep our Village safe for everyone.
Here’s to a safe, fun-filled summer in Lindenhurst! I look forward to seeing you at the Square and all around town.
Warm Regards,
Michael A. Lavorata
Mayor

The Lindenhurst Memorial Library was filled with creativity, community spirit, and civic pride during this year’s Junior Mayor Gallery Night, a special event held in April to honor participants in the annual “Loving Lindenhurst” contest.
The evening showcased a vibrant collection of art, essays, and multimedia projects created by local students, each expressing what they love most about their hometown. These inspiring submissions are the heart of the contest, which selects the community’s next Junior Mayors—young leaders who represent Lindenhurst’s future with passion and purpose.
A heartfelt thank you goes to the Lindenhurst Memorial Library staff, whose support and hospitality made this memorable night possible. We are deeply grateful to Library Director Lisa Kropp and Deputy Director Caitlin Sempowich for graciously hosting the event and for their ongoing commitment to uplifting our youth through, not only the Junior Mayor program, but through the library’s extensive programming, as well.
The Junior Mayor program continues to be a cornerstone initiative celebrating civic engagement and youth leadership in Lindenhurst. We look forward to seeing these bright young leaders continue to make a difference in our community.

The Village of Lindenhurst recently held a press conference to help promote the New York State Department of Veterans’ Services FreshConnect Checks Program, and the federal Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP). Both of these programs enable eligible participants – including veterans, service members, their families, and qualified, low-income senior citizens – to purchase healthy, fresh, local fruits and vegetables at participating farmers’ markets and farm stands.
One of those participating markets is the Lindenhurst Farmers Market, opening for the season on Saturday, May 10th, at Lindenhurst Village Square Park. Now in its second year, the Lindenhurst Farmers Market is organized by local volunteer, Darlene Fantel. This year, she is coordinating weekly programming at the market to focus on health, nutrition, and wellness activities and education, including Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk Nutrition Education Programs, New York State National Guard Citizen’s Emergency Preparedness Training, and food demonstrations led by Lindenhurst High School Culinary/Hospitality Students. The Lindenhurst Farmers Market will be open on Saturdays, through November 22nd, from 10:00AM-2:00PM.
The FreshConnect Checks Program is for veterans, active service members, surviving spouses & family members. FreshConnect Checks are distributed locally through the Suffolk County Veteran Services Agency (suffolkcountyny.gov/veterans/Home) on a first-come, first-served basis. Interested applicants must first register by contacting the Northport VA Medical Center at 631-261-4400 x12073.
For income requirements and information about the FMNP for Senior Citizens, please contact the Village of Lindenhurst Rainbow Senior Citizens Center at 631-957-7526.
Deputy Mayor RJ Renna said, “Lindenhurst is proud to be a place where our seniors, local veterans, service members, and their families can come to utilize these important benefits. We hope that the Lindenhurst Farmers Market will benefit ALL of our residents, as a place to gather to get healthy food for our bodies, nutritional information for our minds, and community fellowship for our spirits.”
