In celebration of Women’s History Month, the Lindenhurst Village Board recently recognized Alice Cromarty and the Honorable Gaetan B. Lozito (Ret.) as outstanding community members. Both women were celebrated for their exceptional leadership and tireless service to our community.
Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “Their commitment to strengthening our community, and uplifting others reflects the spirit of Women’s History Month, and honors the legacy of the many women whose leadership and compassion continues to inspire future generations.”
Former District Court Judge Gaetan B. Lozito’s memberships include the Suffolk County Bar Association, the Suffolk County Women’s Bar Association, and the Suffolk County Columbian Lawyers Association. She is also actively involved with the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst, the Zonta Club of Western Suffolk County, the Babylon Citizens Council of the Arts, the Order of the Sons and Daughters of Italy in America, and Rotary International.
Through her leadership as Co-President of the Kiwanis Club of Lindenhurst, and her dedicated service to the Business Improvement District and Babylon Citizen’s Council of the Arts, Alice Cromarty has remained a cornerstone of the Lindenhurst community. Alice’s dedication to her community is further evidenced by her participation in the Kiwanis Hometown Heroes program, which honors those who have served our country in the military.

Built in January 1901 as the third depot to serve the Breslau/Lindenhurst community, the Society will celebrate the buildings’ 125th Anniversary with the completion of a 2 year-long renovation project enhancing both buildings and the adjoining railroad hack.
Lindenhurst, NY – The Lindenhurst Historical Society invites residents, history buffs, and railroad aficionados to take a “sneak peek” at the newly renovated Freight House, one of the three buildings that make up the museum complex at Irmisch Historic Park, located at the intersection of South Broadway and South Third Street on Saturday March 28, 2026 from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
Improvements to the Depot, Freight House and Hack have been funded in part by the Inc. Village of Lindenhurst and through generous Suffolk County Omnibus grant funds, but the elbow grease, creativity and tender loving care was provided by the unwavering diligence and dedication of Society members and volunteers led by Lindenhurst Historical Society President Evie Sosna, Lindenhurst Museum Director Marianne Gulieiri and Site Manager Ed “Skip” Meinhold. On March 28 visitors will be able to view the recently renovated interior of the Freight House, replete with railroad artifacts relating to the 1870 founding of our community as Breslau. Visitors who have not been able to visit the Depot and “Hack”, renovated last year, will be able to do so on March 28. The Old Village Hall Museum, which celebrated its grand reopening last July, will be opened as well and docents will be on hand to host visitors as they tour the entire site.
The Old Village Hall Museum is opened to the public year-round; during the fall and winter months on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2PM – 4PM and during the spring and summer months, hours on Fridays from 2PM to 4PM are added. Credited as Long Island’s first railroad museum, the 1901 Restored LIRR Depot and Freight House replicates the Lindenhurst stop on the LIRR, recalling its original location along East Hoffman Avenue, close to the grade crossing at No. Wellwood Ave. The Depot and Freight House are open to the public from June through October on Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 2:00PM to 4:00PM. Admission is free for all museums; donations are gratefully accepted.
Lindenhurst Village officials were honored to join the recent St. Patrick’s Day festivities at the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge. Attendees enjoyed a fantastic evening filled with community spirit, and a traditional corned beef and cabbage dinner that did not disappoint. The crowd was also treated to an incredible performance by the Mise Eire Irish Step Dancers, and DJ Gerry Ferretti kept the energy high with all the Irish classics.
Mayor Michael Lavorata said “I would like to extend a sincere thank you to the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge for hosting such a wonderful event and bringing the ‘Luck of the Irish’ to Lindenhurst.”

Dear Residents,
Although there is still some snow on the ground, Spring is just around the corner, and March is the perfect time to get out and enjoy everything our Village has to offer. From family-friendly events to seasonal activities, there is something for everyone to enjoy in Lindenhurst this month.
This month, we have several exciting events for the whole family:
We encourage everyone to take part in these events and connect with neighbors. It is a wonderful way to celebrate community and make new memories.
I would also like to remind residents of the following important dates:
Our Village departments are busy preparing for the season, including street and park maintenance, to keep Lindenhurst safe and welcoming for all.
Stay informed about Village services, programs, and updates by checking our website and the MyLindy app. Village Hall staff are always available to assist you by calling 631-957-7500 or visiting 430 S. Wellwood Avenue.
Thank you for your continued support and pride in Lindenhurst. Together, we make our Village a vibrant and welcoming community.
Thanks to $1 million in funding secured through the office of Congressman Andrew Garbarino, the Village of Lindenhurst is continuing major improvements along Wellwood Avenue.
You may have noticed tree removal on North Wellwood Avenue. Similar to the recent upgrades on South Wellwood, these trees will be replaced with more downtown-friendly varieties – designed with root systems that won’t disrupt sidewalks and limbs that won’t interfere with overhead wiring.
This marks the first phase of the project. Just like South Wellwood Avenue, sidewalks and pavers will be fully replaced, and the North Wellwood roadway will also be repaved.
And as before, for every tree removed, the Village will plant two new trees. If you would like to be added to the list to receive a tree, please email info@villageoflindenhurstny.gov. Plantings are subject to availability and inspection by the Horticulture Department.
We appreciate your patience as we continue enhancing our downtown!
