As warmer weather approaches and many residents begin preparing their pools for the season, the Village of Lindenhurst would like to remind everyone of an important community responsibility.
It is a violation of Village Code (158-7) for both residents and commercial pool companies to pump or discharge pool water into the street. This runoff does not simply disappear—it flows into storm drains, enters local waterways (creeks and canals), and ultimately impacts the Great South Bay.
Chemicals commonly found in pool water can harm the environment, affecting ecosystems and water quality. In fact, any water pumped into the roadway, even clean water, can pick up oils and pollutants, carrying them into the positive water system. By discharging water onto your lawn area, to be filtered by the ground soil, better protects our shared natural resources and preserves the health of our bay.
We appreciate your cooperation in keeping Lindenhurst clean, safe, and environmentally responsible. If you have questions about proper pool drainage, please contact Village Code Enforcement for guidance.
Thank you for doing your part!
