David Crowe Day – March 17, 2022
LINDENHURST RECOGNIZES DAVID CROWE
March is a great time of year when we are all Irish, and one of the best ways we celebrate is with a St. Patrick’s Parade.
David Crowe, Proprietor of the Belfast Gastropub, was recognized by the Lindenhurst Village Board with a day in his honor – St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th, 2022 – for conceiving the idea, and organizing the first-ever St. Patrick’s Parade in the nearly 100-year history of the Village. Located at 101 North Wellwood Avenue, the Belfast Gastropub opened its doors last year, bringing Irish food, drink, music and tradition to the Village Downtown.
Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “I am so grateful to David Crowe and the rest of the Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade Committee – RJ Renna, Kevin McCaffrey, and Katie Schrader – for organizing this fun, family event, celebrating Irish heritage, and the Patron Saint of Ireland, St. Patrick, in the Village of Lindenhurst.”
The Lindenhurst St. Patrick’s Parade will step off at 11:00 AM, on Saturday, March 26th, from Fireman’s Park, traveling west on Hartford Street, turning south on Wellwood Avenue, and proceeding to the Middle School. Come out and enjoy a day of Irish fun!

Lindenhurst Moose Lodge Rocks
The Lindenhurst Moose Lodge 1421 celebrated the end of winter with a roast beef dinner and entertainment from favorite local band, “The Mutant Kings”, fronted by Lindenhurst resident Gerry Ferretti. The Lindenhurst Moose Lodge is about celebrating life together, and serving the Lindenhurst Community by supporting our youth, the elderly, and local food pantries. The Lindenhurst Moose Lodge also supports our children at Mooseheart, and our seniors at Moosehaven. There is always something for everyone at the Lindenhurst Moose Lodge.

Lindenhurst Recognized for Workplace Safety
For the second year in a row, the Village of Lindenhurst has been recognized by Comp Alliance, the Village’s workers compensation carrier, as a safe workplace environment. The Village was awarded with a check for their loyalty to Comp Alliance and continued decrease in workers compensation claims. The Village established a Safety Committee, which meets regularly, to work on ways to improve safety concerns, and implement safety programs and procedures. The Village is committed to keeping its employees safe, and continues to work at improving workplace conditions and minimizing workplace injuries.

Rotary Interact Club for Young Adults
The Lindenhurst Interact Club is a service group for youth, and is part of the Lindenhurst Rotary Club. It is open to students between the ages of 12 and 18. The students meet on the first and third Monday of each month during the school year. They hold fundraisers for local, national, and international projects. This year, the Interact Club purchased a “Buddy Bench” for Village Park and conducted food drives for local families in need. They also made donations to Light-up Lindy, Lindenhurst Rotary’s Dictionary Project, Kentucky tornado victims, Dove Youth Development Project, and Becky’s Beds for the homeless. Their advisors, Pat Chiodo, Gaye Kienle, and Maria Bohrer, as well as all Lindenhurst Rotarians, are so proud of these students. The Interact Club is grateful to Mayor Michael Lavorata and Trustee Maryann Weckerle for allowing them to use the beautiful, new, multi-purpose Rainbow Room, at the Rainbow Community Center, for their meetings.

Village Mourns NYPD Officers
The flags are at half staff at Lindenhurst Village Hall, and blue and black ribbons are draped on the stairways, in honor of the two New York City Police Department Officers — Wilbert Mora, 27 and Jason Rivera, 21 – who lost their lives in the line of duty this week.
New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell was quoted in a New York Times article as saying, “Officers Mora and Rivera were dedicated, courageous, and compassionate officers, loved by many.”
Lindenhurst Mayor Michael Lavorata said, “The residents of the Village of Lindenhurst mourn the loss of these two courageous, young New York City Police Officers. We are all praying for their families during this most difficult time. And let us all pray for the end of such senseless acts of violence in our communities and around our nation.”
