Extreme Heat Watch

June 29, 2026 by Katie McCaffrey Leave a Comment

The Village of Lindenhurst reminds residents that the National Weather Service has issued an Extreme Heat Watch for Suffolk County beginning Wednesday afternoon through Friday evening. Dangerous heat and humidity are expected, with heat index values potentially reaching 105°F or higher.

This level of heat can quickly become hazardous, especially for older adults, young children, outdoor workers, and those without access to air conditioning.

Safety reminders:

  • Drink plenty of water throughout the day
  • Limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours
  • Stay in air-conditioned or shaded areas whenever possible
  • Check on elderly neighbors and those who may need assistance
  • Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles
  • Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing when outdoors
  • Seniors are strongly encouraged to utilize cooling options such as the Rainbow Senior Center to stay safe and comfortable during periods of extreme heat

Residents are encouraged to take all necessary precautions and stay informed as this heat event develops.
