Mayor’s Message – March 2024

A MESSAGE FROM LINDENHURST MAYOR MICHAEL LAVORATA

Our village has experienced a year filled with significant successes. We’ve honored our history, and fulfilled promises made. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our Village Administration & Staff for their hard work and dedication to our residents.

2023 marked the 100th anniversary of the Incorporated Village of Lindenhurst. We enjoyed a year full of celebration and history thanks to the hard work of the 100th Anniversary Committee and the community sponsors. I would like to thank the Chamber of Commerce, Lindenhurst Fire Department, Knights of Columbus, Historical Society, Lindenhurst Memorial Library, Lindenhurst Moose Lodge, and many others for their assistance in celebrating this momentous occasion.

The Village has continued its commitment to the revitalization of our downtown with significant progress on the South Wellwood Avenue improvement project. This project, which includes new sidewalks, pavers, curbing, and repaving of South Wellwood Avenue is expected to be completed within the next few months.

I am aware that improvements are necessary outside of the downtown and that is why we have earmarked $500,000 so far for roadwork improvements in 2024, with the promise of repaving 35th Street. In addition, I recognize the flooding concerns our Village faces which is why we plan to install more pumps and check valves at various locations south of Montauk Highway. I am also pleased to say we have completed plans for the Phase II development of the Shore Road bulkhead and boardwalk. We are in the process of securing the necessary $5 million to complete this project, but I want to assure our residents that this project remains a priority for this administration.

As always, this administration is open to feedback from our residents about ways we can improve. If you would like to pass along a suggestion, please send it to info@villageoflindenhurstny.gov. We are proud and humbled to serve you.
