Suffolk County Announces Electric Vehicle and Charging Infrastructure

April 22, 2022 by Katie McCaffrey

Suffolk County Announces Electric Vehicle and Charging Infrastructure

Suffolk County celebrated Earth Day at the Lindenhurst Memorial Library with the announcement of a partnership with local libraries and municipalities to expand Countywide electric vehicle charging capabilities with a $12 million investment for electric vehicles and charging infrastructure.

The goal is to make investments in the Countywide Electric Vehicle Infrastructure, including the purchase of electric vehicles – the first of which was delivered today.

This new initiative from Suffolk County aligns with the sustainability efforts of both the Village of Lindenhurst and the Lindenhurst Memorial Library – which is the third library in the Country to be certified as a “Sustainable Library. The Village of Lindenhurst has undertaken its own sustainability efforts with the installation of a solar carport at the commuter lot, solar panels at Village Hall, and LED streetlights.

Mayor Lavorata stated, “The Village of Lindenhurst, along with the Lindenhurst Memorial Library, are happy to contribute to the overall sustainability efforts in Suffolk County.”

Pictured here is County Executive Steve Bellone, Presiding Officer Kevin McCaffrey, and others with the newly purchased Nissan Leaf electric vehicle.
