Lindenhurst envisions a healthy and thriving downtown and a Village equally welcoming to young families and seniors, as it is accommodating to new residents and those who have lived in Lindenhurst all their lives. The Village is undertaking the development of its first Downtown Master Plan which will provide a foundation for sustainable development, preserve our hometown character, respect our environment, maximize existing infrastructure, and improve our quality of life.
The Downtown Master Plan will develop recommendations for improved linkages within the Village, including access from the downtown to the waterfront, transit connectivity, traffic calming and pedestrian safety; and identify opportunities for downtown revitalization, including re-use potential of underutilized properties within the downtown, additional parking in the central business district, and residential relocation opportunities for residents south of Montauk Highway. The development of the Downtown Master Plan will take approximately 9 months. The plan will provide a long-range vision for the downtown with a planning projection of 10-15 years.
As the Village looks to the future, the success of the Downtown Master Plan hinges on the participation of its residents, business owners, visitors, and other stakeholders. The Village invites you all to help shape the future of Downtown Lindenhurst by attending a community visioning workshop, scheduled on May 15th, 6:30PM at the Lindenhurst Middle School gymnasium. The event will include opening remarks by the Village, a short presentation on the downtown master plan, followed by a community workshop with interactive stations designed to stimulate discussion and offer the chance to provide your ideas and priorities for the future of Downtown Lindenhurst community.
Another opportunity to provide input is through the Online Survey on the Downtown Master Plan. The survey will also be available as paper copies to be filled and submitted at the Community Visioning Workshop.
