The year 2018 continues to be one of progress for the Village of Lindenhurst. There have been many steps towards the revitalization of our downtown including the refurbishment of the northern parking lot on South 1st Street, demolition of blighted properties on Hoffman and High Street and new businesses joining our downtown.
The Village has received grant funding from Suffolk County to do a “Walkability Study” in order to make the most of the downtown and create connections from different parts of the Village. Public involvement is extremely important to this Administration, so as part of the Walkability Study, walking tours will be conducted to garner ideas and input from the people that live and do business here. The dates of the walking tours will be announced on our website (www.villageoflindenhurstny.gov) and posted to various other sources.
Now that schools are out for summer vacation, please be sure to drive carefully. It is important that we all do our part to keep our neighborhoods safe.
Summertime in the Village lends itself to many free recreational events. The Summer Concert Series runs every Saturday at 7:30 PM in the Village Square from June to September, the full schedule can be found on our website. Visit one of the restaurants located in the Village before the show and don’t forget to bring a lawn chair! Also located at the Village Square is the weekly farmers market on Saturdays from 10 AM – 3 PM.
The annual Snapper Derby will be held on August 25, 2018 and is open to children ages 5-12. It’s a great event for not only the kids, but the whole family as well. Registration is free and begins at 8 AM at the Village’s marina (end of South Wellwood Avenue). If you do not already have one, come down to Village Hall to get your crabbing permits and free resident marina parking pass so that you can take advantage of all the Village marina has to offer!
Please remember that there are no regularly scheduled Village Board meetings in July and August, however we will meet to pay bills and discuss any issues that require immediate action. These meetings are July 10 and August 17 at 6 pm. As usual, with the exception of July and August, Village Board meetings are held the first and third Tuesday of every month; all are encouraged to attend. It’s a great way to get involved and stay updated on what is going on in the Village.
It is important to our administration continue to hear the ideas, suggestions and concerns of residents. If you have something you would like to share with the Village Board, please contact Village Hall.
Along with the Board of Trustees, our Administrative staff and all the employees of the Village, we look forward to continuing to serve the Village to the best of our abilities for the betterment of Lindenhurst!
Mayor Michael A. Lavorata
