Welcome to our improved Village Website! It has been a long time coming but is a work in progress and we plan to continue to improve it as a source for information. Our intent is to create a Virtual Village Hall for which you may contact me, my office staff and/or members of the Administration with issues, problems and continued suggestions.
As you may know, I was appointed Mayor on February 28th by the Village Board after Mayor Tom Brennan decided to retire. I take this honor very seriously and promise to serve with the same dedication that Mayor Brennan did. However, I will put some of my own new ideas on the table as well. I have appointed Maryann Weckerle as our Deputy Mayor. Maryann has been a Trustee since April 2006 and I cannot think of anyone more dedicated and more qualified to perform the duties of the Deputy Mayor.
I also wish to welcome Richard J. Renna as a Trustee to the Village Board. RJ was appointed by me on April 3rd to fill the seat that I vacated upon my appointment to Mayor. RJ brings youth, energy and many new ideas to the Board. He is a welcomed addition to the administration.
Mayor Thomas A. Brennan served us for 13 years as Mayor. While we are sorry to see him retire, we are thankful for the mark and the legacy that he has left on our Village. Prior to his Mayoral stint, he was a Village Trustee for 5 years. He will now focus on playing his favorite role of grandfather to his 4 grandkids. In addition, he will be working with us in several roles guiding us through some projects that began under his administration. So he won’t be far away.
Well finally, Spring has sprung and with it we can see the flowers popping up and leaves on the trees returning. Deputy Mayor Maryann Weckerle and I want to remind you that with the coming of Spring, we will be hosting several activities in our downtown, beginning with the Springfest from May 5th through the 7th. We will also be hosting the Annual Memorial Day Parade on May 29th. On June 3rd, the Lindenhurst Fire Department will host its Annual Parade and Drill. Finally, on June 11th, the Lindenhurst Cares Coalition will host its Annual Walk of Hope which this year has been expanded to a full day of events beginning at 9am. It will be a wonderful day of community gathering which the LCC has planned for everyone. There will be live music from the band Electric Jam (which will feature a certain Mayor on rhythm guitar).
I want to thank the Lindenhurst Fire Department, the Business Improvement District (BID), the Mayor’s Beautification Society, the Historical Society and the Village Administration for a wonderful Holiday Celebration held on December 5, 2016. Each year, the parades get better and better and the Village Park, looked wonderful with Christmas lighting, garland and lights, which really added to the celebration of the season!
Our administration continues to encourage residents to share their ideas, suggestions and concerns with us. Our partnership with the various civic, service and community organizations have strengthened because we all have the same goal of keeping Lindenhurst as a great place to live, work and enjoy!
Along with the Board of Trustees, our Administrative staff and all the employees of the Village, we look forward to continue to serve the Village to the best of our abilities for the betterment of Lindenhurst!
Mike Lavorata, Mayor
